Finally, and later than I thought, the time has come to share the first playable demo of Spirit of Eternal Racer.
As I've mentioned before, the final steps to complete this first demo took quite a bit longer than expected. The game's features are the same as they were a month ago, maybe even more, but as I explained, there were things to fix and certain changes to make.
What's in this demo?
This demo is just a small preview. In it, you'll find a retro-style racing game. You can try one of the three available cars on a single circuit, each with its own unique performance and handling.
I recommend you take a look at the README file, as there are several keys that will be very useful. The most important one to start with is T, which lets you enable manual gear shifting if you prefer. And, of course, the ESC key to go back and exit the game.
If you like to mess with the settings, you can also modify the config.ini file to change the resolution, enable full-screen mode, and explore other options.
Technical Requirements and support
This game is built with SDL and, for now, it runs well on PiStorms, but I don't think it will run smoothly even on a Vampire. However, on an emulator like WinUAE with JIT, it runs much more comfortably than on a Pi.
I have a Raspberry Pi 3 and I've managed to reach 45 FPS. I would love it if anyone with a Pi4 or a CM4 could tell me what framerate the game gets. You'll see the FPS in a console message when you press ESC and leave the game.
Your Feedback is the Most Important Thing!
The main reason for releasing this demo is to get your feedback. Every comment, no matter how small, will help me make Spirit of Eternal Racer the best experience it can be. You can leave your feedback by clicking the envelope icon below this article.
